Following her devilish antics in WandaVision, Agatha Harkness will return to the Marvel universe. The latest trailer shows her uniting her coven, and taking a perilous trip down the Witches’ Road.
The eccentric Agatha first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the WandaVision series as a nosy neighbour named Agnes. However, the seemingly harmless woman turned out to be a powerful witch looking to take on Wanda Maximoff’s unique powers.
Viewers came to love this sassy, hilarious and ruthless witch, so it’s no wonder that Marvel gave Agatha her own series. The show will make up part of phase five of the MCU, and here’s all we know about it.
Agatha All Along release date
The series about the clever witch will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday 18 September 2024, with two episodes.
The show, described as a miniseries, will run for 9 episodes.
Agatha All Along was initially scheduled to debut in the winter of 2023, but the production was pushed back due to the Hollywood industry strikes.
What time do new episodes of Agatha All Along release?
The first two episodes of Agatha All Along will debut on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at 9pm ET/6pm PT. That means that UK viewers won’t get the new episodes until the day after, Thursday 19 September, at 2am BST.
New episodes will roll out each week at this time, which was introduced for Loki season 2.
Agatha Harkness series official title
Initially, the show was titled Agatha: House of Harkness, but was renamed Coven of Chaos in July 2022, and for Darkhold Diaries in September 2023. Those who thought that was the last change were mistaken.
On 13 May 2024, Marvel fans were surprised by Agatha: The Lying Witch with the Great Wardrobe title, which was revealed on social media. However, the tweet was quickly deleted.
Finally, the ultimate title was revealed on 14 May at Disney’s Upfront presentation. Kathryn Hahn, who portrays the witch, announced the show is called Agatha All Along – a clear reference to a beloved song from the WandaVision show.
The constant title changes seemed part of Disney’s marketing strategy to fuel fans’ interest in the series.
Who is Agatha Harkness?
Agatha first appeared in 1970’s Fantastic Four #94 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She was depicted as an elderly nanny hired by Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman to care for their son, Franklin. As it turned out, she was a witch who remembered the sinking of Atlantis and was one of the defendants in the 17th-century trial in Salem. After many adventures with the Fantastic Four and Scarlet Witch, Agatha was finally burned at the stake. However, she returned to life, and eventually she regained her youth.
In the comics, Agatha was Wanda’s mentor who taught her how to use and control magic powers. Eventually, she discovered that the Maximoff children were merely manifestations of the soul of Mephisto – one of Marvel’s villains – and erased Wanda’s memory of them, protecting her from the trauma. However, when Scarlett Witch discovered the truth, she killed Agatha in cold blood.

Agatha Harkness was the most powerful witch on the Earth. Among other abilities, she could levitate, teleport, use telekinesis, manipulate the four elements, cast illusions and read people’s minds. She also had a familiar, cat named Ebony, possessing mystical powers.
Agatha All Along plot
Spoilers for WandaVision below.
In WandaVision we saw a much grimmer version of Agatha. Rather than Wanda’s mentor, she was her enemy and power-seeking sinister witch – though she was still funny and charismatic. At the end of the series, she was trapped by Wanda in the persona of Agnes and condemned to live in an ordinary world.
In Agatha All Along, filmmakers depict Agatha’s fate after the events of WandaVision. Thanks to Rio Vidal, her old friend, she finds a way to break Maximoff’s hex. However, she realises she’s powerless. To reclaim her abilities, she gathers the coven of witches and sets on a path filled with dark magic, dangerous creatures and enemies.
As grim as it may sound, the series will have a comedic twist – creators promised that the show will feature musical numbers similar to the viral ‘Agatha All Along’ from WandaVision. We’ve already heard one of these at D23 – Down the Witches’ Road.
The description of the series’ episode 1 reads:
In the first episode we see Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in. She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer told Entertainment Weekly that the show takes inspiration from other witches in pop culture, including Elphaba and Glinda from Wicked.
The article also revealed that the Witches’ Road involves a series of trials. If those who walk it fail, they perish. If they succeed, then they get their deepest desires – it’s a spooky twist on the Yellow Brick Road.
These trials place the witches in intriguing settings, including one where they’re dressed as a Fleetwood Mac-style band, and another inspired by an 80s summer camp. In addition, a lot of the special effects in the show are practical, as explained in this behind-the-scenes featurette:
