In summary
- Gemini 3 rolling out globally
- New UI, including adaptable templates
- Experimental Agent feature does everything for you
Google has announced a new version of its AI model in Gemini 3, together with a new design and a powerful new Gemini Agent feature, though not all smartphone users will be able to access all of these features.
The company assures us that we’ll notice Gemini’s responses getting more helpful following the upgrade. It also benefits from cleaner and more concise formatting.
Gemini 3 Pro is rolling out now, though at the time of writing (on the morning of 19 November) it wasn’t showing up here in the UK on my Google Pixel 10 Pro.
Here are the main new elements of Gemini 3, for those who can access it at least.
New design and UI
Google has completely redesigned the Gemini app for its third major iteration. It’s said to be easier to start chats than ever.
You also get a new ‘My Stuff’ folder that contains all of the materials you’ve created using Google’s AI assistant.
Using Gemini to shop should be an improved experience too. Google now drags product listings, comparison tables and prices directly from its Shopping Graph.
Another intriguing new Gemini feature is generative interfaces, which sees Gemini adapting the very UI through which you’re using it according to the task. There are two new ‘views’ available at present.
Google’s new visual layout gives you an immersive magazine-like view that might be utilised when asking Gemini to formulate a holiday itinerary.
Meanwhile, the dynamic view codes a custom user interface in real-time based on your prompt. Google uses the illustration of asking its AI assistant to “explain the Van Gogh Gallery with life context for each piece,” which prompts Gemini to produce an interactive experience on the fly that appears to have been crafted.
Gemini Agent
Another new (albeit limited and experimental) element of Gemini 3 is Gemini Agent, which takes Gemini an extra step towards being a genuine virtual assistant. It promises to handle complex multi-stage tasks for you by drawing from across Google’s suite of apps.
Besides organising your email – prioritising items and drafting replies – Google’s most powerful example of what it can does a request to “Research and help me book a mid-size SUV for my trip next week under $80/day using details from my email”. Gemini Agent will then look up your flight information, compare car rentals within the stipulated budget, and even prepare the booking for you.
And if the thought of an AI agent spending money and firing off work emails on your behalf sounds like a recipe for disaster, Google assures us that Gemini has been designed to “seek confirmation before critical actions”.
Gemini Agent is available from today, but only on the web for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US.
