Samsung’s big Unpacked event just came to an end, and the firm didn’t make the surprise announcement we were expecting.
We had a feeling, as did some leakers, that Samsung would reveal its upcoming tri-fold smartphone at the big New York launch. This is expected to be an evolution of the Galaxy Z Fold, with a second hinge and a much bigger screen, rivalling the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate below.
It wasn’t expected that Samsung would fully unveil the device, but a ‘one more thing’ style teaser at the end of the keynote seemed like a decent bet. Leaked information suggested it would be announced at the July event and then arrive fully in October.

This would have made sense, as Samsung has a habit of dropping teaser trailers for new devices right at the end of keynotes.
We saw it for the Galaxy Ring as well as the Galaxy S25 Edge, neither of which Samsung let us know about in advance, despite briefing us on the other devices for those launches. The smart ring didn’t even get leaked.

It means, like the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which was another no-show at Unpacked, that the wait goes on for what has been dubbed the Galaxy G Fold.
Perhaps Samsung didn’t want to detract from the trio of new foldables that went up for pre-order today – the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, even though they’re probably appealing to a different type of consumer.
It may have also learned its lesson after the Galaxy S25 Edge took many months to launch after it was teased alongside the other S25 models, and sales have been disappointing so far.
Another Unpacked later in 2025, potentially in October, might be when we get our first proper glimpse of the Galaxy tri-fold. But for now, we’ll have to make do with the new Fold and Flips, as well as the Galaxy Watch 8 series.
