Apple has officially launched the much-anticipated iOS 17.2 update for iPhone users, introducing a host of new features, improvements, and security fixes.

The update, available through the system updates section, brings several additions, including the Journal app, Contact Key Verification, spatial video capture for iPhone 15 Pro series, and updates to the Weather and Messages apps.

Alongside these additions, the update addresses various bugs and glitches for enhanced system stability.

The iOS 17.2 update weighs around 1.5GB for those currently on iOS 17.1.2. Users can start the download by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update, selecting “Install Now,” and following the onscreen instructions.

Compatibility-wise, the iOS 17.2 update caters to a range of iPhone models, encompassing the iPhone XS series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, and the latest iPhone 15 series. However, certain features are exclusive to newer iPhone models due to specific hardware requirements.

Journaling App: Making its debut, the long-awaited Journal app allows users to create and manage personal journals, incorporating notes, photos, and videos for a comprehensive journaling experience.

Spatial Video Recording for iPhone 15 Pro: Exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users, spatial video recording enables the capture of 3D videos using main and ultra-wide-angle cameras, facilitated by the LiDAR sensor. These videos can be viewed on the upcoming Vision Pro VR headset.

Contact Key Verification: Prioritizing digital security, iOS 17.2 introduces the Contact Key Verification feature, enabling users to verify the identity of their contacts using Apple ID and device information, enhancing protection against phishing attempts.

Telephoto Lens Improvements: Enhancements to the telephoto lens reduce the time required to capture photos of small, distant objects on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Action Button Upgrade: The action button on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max receives a significant upgrade, allowing users to quickly translate phrases for improved communication with foreign language speakers.

Message App Updates: The Messages app undergoes significant updates, introducing a catch-up arrow for swift navigation, an “Add sticker” option for seamless sticker incorporation into message bubbles, and enhanced Memoji customization with adjustable body shapes.

Weather and News App Improvements: The Weather app features a redesigned widget with additional information and an interactive moon calendar. The News app integrates with Live Activities, providing real-time updates on critical developments.

In addition to these major changes, iOS 17.2 brings enhancements to AirDrop, Siri Support, Apple Music, and more. Simultaneously, Apple has released watchOS 10.2 and tvOS 17.2, offering additional features and improvements for Apple Watch and Apple TV users.
