The Oscars are the most important awards in the film industry, and the ceremony draws a crowd of A-list celebrities to the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre.
However, if you’re unsure if the 96th Academy Awards show is worth watching, we’d like to remind you that this year’s gala will feature quite a treat. Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson will be performing the song I’m Just Ken from this year’s blockbuster Barbie – live! We wouldn’t miss it for the world.
This year’s Academy Awards will take place this weekend, and Oppenheimer is up for the most awards with a total of 13 nods.

What time do the 2024 Oscars air?
The 2024 Academy Awards will take place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday 10 March 2024. Here are the times that it airs:
- 7pm ET (East Coast US)
- 4pm PT (West Coast US)
- 11pm GMT – Sunday 10 March (UK)
The show will last around 3½ hours and will be broadcast on TV and around the world.

Which channel is the Oscars on?
If you’re in the US, the Oscars will air on ABC.
In the UK, for the first time, the Oscars show will be broadcast on ITV1.
Those who don’t like to go to bed late can watch a 90-minute highlights package of the ceremony, airing on ITV1 at 10.45pm GMT on Monday 11 March and streaming on the ITVX Oscars pop-up page. It will be available for three weeks.
How to watch the Oscars online
US viewers who won’t be near a TV have an easy option – head to the ABC website to stream the whole show live or watch it through the ABC app. Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV will also be streaming the show.
UK viewers can stream the show on ITVX.

What are the red carpet shows?
In the US, ABC will be showing several pre-Oscar shows throughout the day:
- Countdown to the Oscars: On the Red Carpet – 10am PT / 1pm ET
- On the Red Carpet at the Oscars – 1pm PT / 4pm ET

Who is hosting the 2023 Oscars?
Jimmy Kimmel will be back to host the ceremony for a fourth time. He previously hosted in 2017, 2018 and 2023.

There are 23 categories for the Oscars this year. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leads the pack, with the film up for 13 awards. It is closely followed by Yórgos Lánthimos’ Poor Things, which is up for eleven awards. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon has 10 noms and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has a chance for eight awards.
